This dvd is the first release since Fox aquired the rights to the series. The first release from Yell gave us the first 22 episodes of the series. This release from Fox is one of those “couple of episodes to test the waters” dvds we all detest so distinguished. Impartial release the series and conclude these innane few episode releases.

If you occupy the first release from Scream you will be joyful to know the 10 episodes on this DVD are NOT from the 22 previously released. The episodes are here in thier entirety, with the exeption of an updated Dic Logo at the raze, (and in some cases a “Cookie Jar” logo [the company Fox hired to release these]) . This is a one disk, double sided unfortunatly. The episodes automatically play, however there is a menu from which you can decide which you want to gawk. No special features, but there are Spanish subtitles.

The 10 episodes released on this disk are

I gave this collection 4 stars instead of 5 because we all would rather peep a season release. Since this is unlikely however I would reccomend buying this dvd.

It’s a shame that Cry Factory didn’t sell enough copies of their first and only chronological collection of Inspector Gadget. This was probably the best cartoon of the 80s, and I was looking forward to owning the new accelerate of episodes. After waiting 3 and a half years for more, Fox finally released this fresh single disc. The episodes are random, out of order selections, and like the other reviewers have said, I want sets that are in order. Unexcited, getting this release is better than nothing. It’s 10 episodes that were previously unavailable, and for that I’m thankful. Hopefully this time around it sells enough to merit more releases, preferably with more episodes next time.

Firstly let me point out that there is a DVD version of EOD, several actually. The best version is the latest released this year which is a astonishing transfer and includes a documentary on the film, Magnox and has clips of interviews and award ceremonies and discussions on the series. It is on location 2 DVD and is available from amazon uk. I too remember watching this masterpiece unfold when it was originally screened here in the uk. I was only 14 at the time and British television was smooth producing some unbelievable stuff. Even so I knew this was something extra special. It must have planted a seed in my subconscious. Incredibly in 2003 it has lost none of its power and seems fair as prescient now as ever. The callous disregard for the individual by corporations, the ‘great game’ played out between competing security agencies, the conspiracy of silence in the media. The ecology movement. The collusion of government with the malign constituents in our society. Ostensibly though this is unexcited the ‘little man’s story’ and what a central performance from the leisurely tremendous Bob Peck. His personal disintegration is harrowing to gawk as he tries to unravel the mystery. Joe don Baker, what can you say about his performance. He is utterly compelling as the obsolete school agency man fighting to withhold his head above water. His verbal sparing matches with ‘arts council’ funded MI5’s Ian McNeice and Charles Kay (also valid) are very very laughable. Oh the script, what a script. Troy Kennedy Martin the writer provided the most consistently incandescent screenplay for television ever written. Martin Campbell the director sculpts it all into an entity that supplants the TV media. The DVD I saw previously to EOD was Leone’s masterwork Once upon a time in America and I can honestly say EOD which bares many similarities is lawful up there alongside it. I don’t assume I could give this production a better accolade.

Probably the finest television drama series ever, ‘Edge of Darkness’ was 1985 made flesh – nuclear paranoia in a world gone furious. Apart from the faces, not grand has dated, and even if the threat of nuclear annihilation seems less newsworthy, it’s smooth an pleasant, taut thriller. Bleak and gleaming, it starts with a seemingly random slay, and ends with the world on the brink of apocalpyse.

Everything works, and works well – the clever, non-linear direction is never annoying, the writing is gleaming, everything progresses with brutal, icy logic, and it all seems so distinguished more serious, more ‘real’ than other television dramas of the time (with the possible exception of the early ‘Taggart’) . The acting is profitable – Joe Don Baker’s character may be a stereotype, but he makes it work, and the slow Bob Peck is almost disturbingly intense. It’s a shame that, for most people, he will be remembered as the uncomfortable trapper from ‘Jurassic Park’ (or the narrator of countless nature documentaries) .

It remains with you when its over, the music is righteous, and key images (nuclear trains at the lifeless of night, driving rain on the motorway, a room chunky of telephones, a field of umbrellas, and minute dark flowers) haunt you forever.

We now finally have the details on the seven films that will be in this collection:

It Happened in Hollywood (1937) – Fuller’s second film. Richard Dix stars as a quiet Western star who is attach out of work by the coming of talking pictures, since in the early days the technology can’t be taken outdoors. He loses his career, his ranch, everything. After his topple he encounters a miniature boy who unruffled adores him.

Adventure in Sahara (1938) -Much like Mutiny on the Bounty except it is region in the desert.

Power of the Press (1943) – From 1925-1935 Hollywood had made many anti-war films. This is one of those films that tried to reverse that trend with a anecdote about the dangers of isolationism.

Shockproof (1949, directed by Douglas Sirk) – About a parole officer in adore with a parolee. This is against the rules of his profession, so the parole officer fixes it so the parolee can work in his home tending to his mother. However, the parolee objective may be using him and may composed be in adore with her gangster ex-boyfriend. Don’t blame Sam for the ending. The studio rewrote it.

Scandal Sheet (1952) – Newspaper reporters investigate the death of a woman and settle not only that it was slay but who the murderer is, which turns out to be quite enchanting.

The Crimson Kimono (1959) – A stripper is shot in the streets of L.A. and it’s up to Glenn Corbett and James Shigeta as two cops to settle the killer. The whole investigation enables a story that only Fuller could deny about interracial care for along with the cast of uncommon people that often bear Fuller’s stories.

Underworld U.S.A. (1961) – A teenager sees her father killed by four gangsters. Twenty years later the crime remains unsolved by the police and the gangsters have risen to the top of the underworld. The daughter, now a grown woman, sets out for revenge. Both written and directed by Fuller.

There is yet no word on extra features.

This is an spellbinding collection that really shows Fuller on a swagger during his career. The early films really don’t resemble the work of Fuller as we know it from about 1950 forward, but the first two films were made when Fuller had less creative control over his work, so you have to delight in what he does with material he is handed in his early years. There is an outstanding documentary – “The Men Who Made the Movies – Sam Fuller” – that really shows what made the director tick in his absorb words, but I don’t occupy that Sony has the rights to that one so I doubt it will be available here. If you rep a chance, though, witness that first before you net into these films.

I’m not here to discuss film relate, which is probably sterling. I am here to discuss the difficult packaging which plagues this region. Not only are the DVDs stacked on top of each other in twos, but the lower discs have edges that are positioned BELOW the spindles!

I had major anxiety sliding the four lower DVDs out without breaking them (I did crack the outer packaging twice) . I should have pushed down on the lower release button BEFORE attempting to scramble the discs from underneath the spindles. I’m neither adroit nor mechanically minded, so the packaging was a challenge to me. Others will probably have less pain than I experienced, as long as they are careful.

I smooth abominate this packaging, and would rather have slim cases in a wraparound. That would avoid the potential for breakage that I described above.

The film transfers leer quite superb for the most allotment.

This was a marvelous capture. The DVD contains 3 separate episodes, which is novel for 3-2-1 Penguins.

The first one is “More is More” which I loved. The children (Jason and his twin sister Michelle) are fervent in a sugary cereal called Sugar Frosted Murky Holes, but glean called away on a mission with their friends the Penguins. They’re called to a planet Gutt because its gravitational field isn’t working properly. On the method to the planet, they advance across some of the cereal, and Jason and Kevin become addicted. Even though they are corpulent, they want more. Once the penguins near at the planet, they study that the leader of the planet has keep on a lot of weight compared to his relate on the wall. He has also been eating the sugary cereal. His home is also covered with video games. Michelle comments that it honest seems like too noteworthy, and she’s waiting for a lesson from Saul. Jason figures out that sugar in the cereal is the cause of the gravitational imbalance, and as soon as everyone says “I’ve had enough” balance is restored. It is a astronomical lesson in gluttony, excess, and self-control. I especially liked the fact that a sugary cereal was at the defective of all the problems.

The next one is “The Green-Eyed Monster” which of course is about envy and jealousy. It starts with Michelle being jealous that Jason’s room is .05 meters bigger than hers. This is how they normally space up the myth, a scrape at home for the children gets played out in the Penguins mission. In this case they visit a planet of sheep, and boy does the captain earn a fool out of himself when he meets them! “It’s nice to meet ewe. Do you regain it E-W-E? ” and of course he unbiased won’t topple it. There is a fence dividing the land, and the sheep on both sides reflect the other side’s grass is greener. Even after they switch sides, the detached own the other side is greener. Then a exact green eyed monster appears and is destroying everything. Michelle discovers that you have to be grateful for what you have to obtain rid of the monster.

The last one is “Give and Let Give” which is the account of yard art fighting over a pond. Pink flamingos and garden gnomes, the message here is sharing.

If you’re unique to 3-2-1 Penguins, they are fantastic. The animation is fine, with rich colors, and a three dimensional appearance. The penguins are hysterical, and the messages are meaningful, yet simple enough for a child to understand. Often a Bible verse is outmoded to attend up the right of the chronicle. They are done by the same people who do Veggie Tales, only now everybody has hands.

We purchased the unique DVD, “3-2-1 Penguins: Set Aside the Planets.” This is the first current release of 3-2-1 Penguins since Titanic Belief Productions was acquired by Classic Media.

We liked the three episodes that you can play all at once. It sounds like they got modern actors to do the voices of Michelle, and Captain Zidgel. They follow the same formula as previous episodes with Jason and Michelle praying at their bedside at the demolish of the day, prompted by the lessons they have learned in their most new place adventure. The three unique adventures don’t have musical epilogs like the previous episodes but we liked them.

We have all six previous episodes on DVD and they are all very short. We have to do a lot of DVD player attendance to play three episodes in a row. Ample View needs to re-release the six previous episodes on two separate DVD product releases, three episodes per DVD with a “Play All” option on the DVD menu.

Treeline Films (Now called Mill Pond Films) has swept together some sharp Public Domain features and shorts in this, another of their 50 movie megapacks. Eight of the 50 movies (and an additional two short subject collections) are rarely seen indecent budget musicals from the ’40s featuring all African – American casts. A couple of them are shows filmed at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem. I am enjoying watching the other features, which range in quality but are generally delicate obliging – I’d rate them a 7 or 8 out of 10. Mill Pond’s marketing philosophy (like that of Platinum Disc Corp.) is to offer boxed sets of older films figuring there’s going to be enough titles in them which you (and I) will want to study. I’m overjoyed I bought this site, along with some of their other megapacks. Positive, it duplicates some of the PD titles I already have, but in most cases the quality of the Mill Pond titles is better than the Alpha, Care For Chest or other gross cost DVD distributor’s titles. If you are nit picky on having the highest quality, stick to regular “studio releases”. If you want to stare some highly racy features most studios have forgotten about, and can live with spliced and scuffed films, try one of the Mill Pond 50 movie megapacks!

I need to preface that I am not a fan of anime (or at least I didn’t veteran to be) . I picked up #1 in this series at a discount store for my husband. We watched it together and both wanted more! I found the rest of the series on amazon.com and have purchased all but one. The Galaxy Railways, Vol. 4: Leaps of Faith is really, really superior. This is not your typical Saturday morning cartoon. The stories have depth and the characters prove precise development throughout the different volumes. The only down side is there are only 4 episodes on each disk. Nevertheless, I fill they are worth the heed. I hope you deem so too.

I’m not definite what box spot of comedy classics the majority (certainly not all) of reviewers on this page saw before they commented, but it couldn’t have been this location. I’m a pompous DVD snob, and should rush screaming from a discount, grab-bag position like this, but I fancy it. It gets a burly five stars because of its selection of classic 30’s comedies, its watchable (and sometimes near-perfect) print materials, and its overall heft and value for dollars spent.

First of all, the complaints about the quality of the prints is ridiculous. Most of these films are from the 30’s, and even then, the prints are very watchable, with scratches and debris, yes, but very miniature given the age of the films. Granted, His Girl Friday is a grossly overcut version with plenty of scratches, and is hard to peruse, but for every film like this in the collection, there are 7 or 8 others which are surprisingly elegant, considering their age and the trace of the location. I’m watching the films on an HDtv, and if the films were transferred poorly, I’d study it plainly on my tv, but there’s no digital artifacts, no combing or ghosting AT ALL. This region would survey even better on a tube tv (which wouldn’t recall up all the things the HDtv does)! Not only that, there are a few films on this dwelling, including My Man Godfrey, Like Laughs at Andy Hardy, Something to Issue About, Angel on My Shoulder, Beat the Devil and Stork Club, which are in surpringinly resplendent condition: they are what you’d query on a regularly priced, single DVD.

This status is bulky of classic comedies from the 30’s, and the films are paunchy of art deco style. From the opening credits to the music, clothing and sets, these films reveal off the sleek lines and inspiring contrasts of that style. Glorious.

Migawd, this place has Lubitsch! John Huston, Eve Arden, James Cagney, Jimmy Stewart, William Powell, Carole Lombard, David Niven, Harold Lloyd, Preston Sturges…coupled with the fact that the state is rotund of rarely seen films, some of which have not been released on reliable DVD’s, this is a esteem box, people.

Simply put: this status is indispensible to the classic film buff, and at a note which cannot be bettered, I bet. I have a few of the 50 packs, and relish each of them very mighty. Treeline is a delicate company, and I’m thankful to them for making available so many enormous films at a ridiculously indecent ticket.

WOW! To many Americans, the French and Indian War, was a casual footnote in a long ago history class. Ditto for references to Braddock’s Defeat, Fort Duquesne, and Geo. Washington’s initial exposure to warfare. To a few more, it might generate a recollection that, if they ever read it, “The Last of the Mohicans” by James F. Cooper, was position during this war. It also inspired Longfellow’s legend poem, “Evangeline”. A reference to the Siege of Louisbourg or the Plains of Abraham will likely result in a blank sight. My experience over the years has been that our Canadian neighbors and friends have, in many ways, a better notion of what this war meant to North America than we Americans do. I refer not only of the loss of Canada by France to Britain, but the planting and sprouting of issues during this war, that would fuel and feed the sparks of the American Revolution. This series does a astounding job of taking mighty history, keeping it suitable, chronilogical, understandable, AND, above all, Fascinating. It somewhat came across as if I were watching an action/adventure/war movie EXCEPT that I’ve read several dozen books about the French and Indian War (aka the Seven Years War) and the historical accuracy is generally here. To those of you with an Ph.D. in history I say, relax, bask in, and remember; to those without, belief, like, and learn. Your time will be well spent.

“The War that Made America” is an overview of most of the major events, and the people alive to in them, of the French and Indian War. It’s sort of documentary/miniseries hybrid. Like a documentary, it’s narrated by an actor- Graham Greene, occasionally shows paintings and drawings from the era, and presents maps to highlight where the historical events took state. However, unlike most documentaries, there are no historians discussing the subject or novel scenes of areas where the battles took state. Instead, the film attempts to bring the main events of the war to life by “re-enacting” them through the utilize of actors. I’m hestitant to consume the word “re-enactment” to picture the live-action scenes because that conjures up images of middle-aged, overweight folks waddling about in period costumes and “dying” melodramatically for the camera. The “War that Made America,” although obviously constrained by a outrageous budget, appeared to have made attempts to to avoid the image of “primitive guys playing army” that unfortunately attaches to most documentaries that rely heavily on the services of amateur historical enthusiasts. The live action scenes are fairly subdued and I didn’t gaze any 300lb fifty-year traditional privates or corporals.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The War That Made America: The Story of the French and Indian War! Click Here

For its historical viewpoints, the documentary appears to have relied heavily upon the work of historian Fred Anderson- the author of the “Crucible of War” which is a terrific book on the Seven Years War. Thus, unbiased as Anderson portrayed in his book, the American Indian tribes are shown as serious political players in the struggle and not unbiased peripheral allies as they are usually portrayed by other historians. Further, since Anderson thinks that the guerilla warfare of expertise of American ranger outfits is nothing more than a narrative, Robert Rogers and his rangers are not even mentioned which may surprise some people. However, the film does avoid one of Anderson’s more loopy beliefs- James Wolfe was suicidal and that battle of the Plains of Abraham was simply a design for him to raze himself.

The documentary focuses on most of the well-known events of the war- the attack on Jumonville’s glen, the battles of Fort Necessity, Monogahela, the Bloody Morning Scout and Lake George, Fort William Henry, Ticonderoga, and the Plains of Abraham. It also discusses the problems that the British high mutter had with the colonial assemblies (something Anderson focused heavily on in his book) . Come the extinguish, it indicate some of the events of Pontiac’s uprising. Also, the film constantly reminds the viewer that the French and Indian War is crucial to concept why the American Revolution occured.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The War That Made America: The Story of the French and Indian War! Click Here

That link between the French and Indian War and the American Revolution is mostly demonstrated by the film’s portrayal of the key role that young George Washington played in the F&I war and how it shaped his development as a man and as a commander. The role of George Washington is nicely played by Larry Nehring- a Cleveland stage actor who has Washington’s imposing height and auburn hair. (Although he’s a diminutive too faded to be playing a man who was impartial in early 20’s when most of the events of the film recall space. The film also has an incredibly overaged “Mary Jemison.)

The film is fairly even handed. It does not pretend that the Indians were not responsible for atrocities such as the Fort William Henry massacre or for what Shawnee raiders did to the Jemison family. Thus, it’s not as “PC” as some have complained here especially in light of the fact that there are “historians” out there who have attempted to whitewash every Indian atrocity.

Overall, this was a very nicely done documentary on a though-provoking subject. Yes, it had a public TV documentary budget and looks it, but it does appear that the producers tried hard to compose every cent count. It provides a nice overview for people not really familiar with this period of history. It probably going to be shown in a lot of schools.

I’m in complete agreement with Sam Graham’s editorial review above. It was Gordon’s “gaunt looks” and “feeble teach” that has become so visible in new years that almost prevented me from watching this DVD. I wanted to remember Lightfoot as he was the first time I saw him in person at the Univ. of Irvine cafeteria in ‘68. Virtually unknown in California at the time, there was a limited but involved crowd that evening for what was to be his first ever appearance in Orange County and to this day ranks as one of my all-time accepted concert experiences. I was sixteen at the time and since that Irvine concert I have become one of Gordon’s staunchest fans with a total of 19 Lightfoot concerts attended and hoping for at least one more before I’m through. You might say Gordon and I have grown ragged together.

Overcoming my initial fears of watching a fading shadow of what once was, I purchased the DVD and hesitantly watched it one night after my wife and daughter went to bed. I wanted to deem the concert on my gain without any input from the family. This was between Gordon and I. Now I can say that I’m blissful with my decision. Whatever may have changed through the years, it’s smooth Gordon Lightfoot! Surrounded by some of the same musicians who performed with him long ago in that first concert in ‘68, I soon forgot about how obsolete and faded he looked and once again became absorbed in the music that has meant so considerable to me through the years.

Gordon Lightfoot’s songs certainly haven’t grown customary. They quiet divulge all the passion, introspection, regret and wonder of life that they always have. They always will.

This is Lightfoot’s first concert video, and is in fact his first officially released live recording since 1969. Recorded at the Pioneer Theater in Reno, Nevada on April 19, 2000, the video captures the warmth and intimacy of a Lightfoot concert, brought into your home for the first time.

The DVD contains 22 songs, almost the entire concert. Lightfoot performs all of his hits – songs that charted in the top 40 for him – as well as songs he wrote that were hits for others. And he includes some of his other gargantuan songs which, though never chart hits, are among the best songs ever written.

None of the hits are omitted, so you will hear If You Could Read My Mind, Sundown, Carefree Highway and Break Of The Edmund Fitzgerald, among others. The other songs near from throughout his career, dating aid to the early/mid 60s with Early Mornin’ Rain and For Lovin’ Me, to the title song from his latest fresh album, A Painter Passing Through.

Lightfoot is backed up by his band all of whom has been with him for at least 20 years, and the first two for 30 or more. They are: Terry Clements (lead guitar), Rick Haynes (bass), Barry Keane (drums and percussion) and Mike Heffernan (keyboards), and they are among the finest musicians around. The fact that they have recorded and toured with Lightfoot for so many years says volumes about them and about Lightfoot.

The fleshy state list is: Don Quixote, I’ll Demonstrate My Care For, House You Live In, Sundown, Carefree Highway, Restless, Blackberry Wine, For Lovin’ Me/Did She Mention My Name (Medley), Demolish Of The Edmund Fitzgerald, Waiting For You, Fading Away, Rainy Day People, Shadows, If You Could Read My Mind, A Painter Passing Through, Produce Procedure For The Lady, Early Mornin’ Rain, Baby Step Assist, Song For A Winter’s Night, Canadian Railroad Trilogy, Old-fashioned Dan’s Records, Frosty On The Shoulder.

Amazing list of songs, isn’t it?

(Note: I have not seen this North American release of the concert, but I have seen the UK DVD as well as the current videotape from the production company) .
